Charter Font Family
Charter Font Family is a transitional serif typeface crafted by Matthew Carter in 1987 for Bitstream Inc. Inspired by Pierre-Simon Fournier’s 18th-century designs, Charter was initially created for optimal readability on low-resolution laser printers. Its clean, efficient design makes it suitable for both modern high-resolution and lower-resolution printers. The font family includes regular and bold weights, with matching italics. Charter’s simplified structure and minimal curves contribute to its legibility and no-nonsense aesthetic, making it a versatile choice for body text and various design applications.
There are also extended version XCharter with updated characters and extended language support.
