Dongle Font Family
Dongle is a playful rounded sans-serif display font family designed by Korean typographer Yanghee Ryu. Characterized by its modular Hangeul letterforms with de-squared frames, the typeface creates rhythmic movement through variable character widths that adapt to syllable structures. Originally developed as a 2012 student project exploring Jamo (Korean phonetic components), it evolved into a complete syllabic system containing 11,172 modern Hangeul characters alongside Latin glyphs.
Available in Light, Regular, and Bold weights, Dongle’s condensed proportions and tall x-height make it ideal for digital interfaces and print applications requiring compact Korean typography. The SIL Open Font License allows free commercial use across branding, packaging, apparel, and editorial projects. Notable technical considerations include visual sizing adjustments for optimal legibility and comprehensive language support covering 41 tongues. Its cheerful rounded forms balance functionality with a distinctly Korean aesthetic heritage.
