Hamlet Font
The Hamlet font, also known as Kessler-Blackletter, was designed by Edward Johnston and cut by Edward Prince for William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Published by Harry Kessler’s Cranach Press in Weimar in 1929, it combines lowercase from Durandus and capitals from Sweynheim & Pannartz’s Subiaco type. The font was part of trial projects that remained incomplete. As part of the Gothico Antigua project, digital versions were developed through workshops in France and Germany from 2015 to 2018, involving over 150 students. These workshops culminated in a type design event at Bauhaus Universität Weimar in January 2018.
